fifty four moons
a graceful and regal she-cat, laurelstar is both dainty and powerful. laurelstar is an average sized cat, with exceptionally long legs, and semi-wide, large paws, and razor sharp claws and calloused paw-pads. we move onto her chest, which is slim and lean, and somewhat smaller shoulders then the average female, but laurelstar presents them with pride, as they help her move quicker and keep a fast speed in the territory. she is no windclan cat, but she is quicker then the normal shadowclan cat. next we move onto her head, which is squared off, with a short muzzle, and small, wide eyes. her ears are disproportionately placed upon her head, placed close to the side, rather then on top. even so, they're wide and rounded off at the tip, which ties her face together. moving down her body, her hips are also thin, which does not help her jumping manner at all. finally, her tail is exceptionally long, like her legs, and are like a whip at times.
as far as her coloring, laurelstar is an interesting cat. she's not the common tabbies and solid colorings as her clanmates, or even calicos and tortioseshells. laurelstar's base color is a light, rich cream, that can appear white in bright sunlight. moving onto her paws, her actual paws are white, while her legs are a rich chocolate brown, that seem to blend into her cream about halfway up her legs. the same true for her face, as the same chocolate as her legs sits on her face like a mask, also, her ears are a slightly darker brown then the rest of her body, and are fully colored. the last place to find the chocolate brown is her tail, which it's brown underneath, and the sides and tip of her tail are brown while the top side of her tail is the same cream as the rest of her body. her fur itself is soft like down, and extremely fluffy and long. this makes for longer grooming sessions and easily tangled fur. although she lost her kit fur moons ago, after a very though grooming it is as if she never lost it. finally, laurelstar's eyes are a rich sky blue, with white flecks.
laurelstar tries to be on her guard on a daily basis, and keeps a close eye on who goes in and out of the camp. the forest these days are rough, and laurelstar wants to be prepared for anything that can and will happen, at any given moment. it's not to say that she never gives her clan a break, because she does (starclan knows that she cares for shadowclan more then she even does herself), it's just to say that she prefers to keep her clan on guard, prepared for any surprise ambushes, and prepared for any sickness that may sweep the camp. over the few moons she has been leader, laurelstar has learned what works with her clan, and what does not.
no perfect leader would say that they have nothing left to learn - whether it be from themselves, their clanmates, other clans, or anything else. every cat still has something that it can learn from another, and laurelstar isn't afraid to admit that she is still learning from her clanmates. growing up, laurelstar took every challenge thrown at her head on, and didn't hesitate with the task. elder's need ticks removed? laurelstar was on that in an instant, and each time tried to do it quicker and more efficiently then the regular way (and ultimately failed, each time). an advanced battle move that was being taught to the entire clan the first time? laurelstar was begging her mentor to be one of the first apprentices to be taught the move, and then turning around and teaching the rest of the apprentices.
as an apprentice laurelstar may of been ready to face the apocalypse, she's matured now and realized that everything takes patience, and she's now developed a style that is all her own. confident in her actions in battle and in hunting, and as a leader as well, laurelstar holds her head high with an air of royalty and is firm in her actions, and consequently, firm in her punishments as well. laurelstar does try to see the good in a situation if prompted, and punishes cats fairly, but laurelstar simply does not want her clan to become weak. she rules with an iron fist, and believes that there should be no room for error. while she accepts that there will be error every so often, she strives to avoid it as much as possible.
with that said, laurelstar has a certain way that she likes her clan being run. and expects it to stay that way. border patrols require four warriors, and hunting parties require two, with two apprentices (if available). she knows that her clan often gets irritated with how down to the very last detail laurelstar lives her life, but she refuses to allow her clan to fall to ruin. after all, the threat of her being overthrown is always up in the air, and she wants to make her impression as a leader as clean and trustworthy as she can make it. she's more patient with apprentices and younger warriors, but laurelstar expects her more seasoned warriors to know better.
laurelstar is also very, very blunt. she won't be hiding her tongue, and she will say what she wants to say, whether that be praise or a lashing for doing something wrong. this is also bad in every day conversation. because of her blunt nature, she says things she shouldn't of, and by that, she offends her clanmates. laurelstar wonders if the filter between her brain and her mouth didn't work, but reasons it to the fact that she does not like being told to be quiet anymore, or doesn't like not being told honest opinions.
laurelstar is also a bit on the antisocial side of things. while she does ingage in conversations with her warriors every now and again, she much prefers to lay in front of her den and merely watch her clan interact. it doesn't bother her any, and most of the clan just accepts that laurelstar isn't one for conversation most of the time, and leaves it at that.
born exceptionally smaller then her siblings, and with only one other surviving sibling, laurelkit and her brother molekit were not what their parents were expecting. they were hoping for big, strong kittens. ones that would be ferocious in battle and would make their family bloodline proud. however, what lilyfur and bearstep did get was two small, sickly kittens, and another stillborn kitten. lilyfur wrinkled her nose in disgust at the two as soon as she was alone with them. though, she did admit to herself that laurelkit was exceptionally beautiful, and could probably land herself with a prideful warrior with ease.
the case was not so for molekit. a simple, boring brown tabby kitten, molekit's life was not destined for anything great as soon as he was born. lilyfur took more time priming laurelkit's fur, telling them both to keep quiet, as children should be seen - not heard. any talking that was not prompted previously earned them both a hard cuff to the ear. while laurelkit and molekit both got their fair share of ear cuffs as soon as they could talk, it seemed that sometimes molekit was just the source of any pent up anger that lilyfur had that day, as she would often take it out on the poor kitten.
it was when laurelkit and molekit were four moons old that lilyfur had enough with both of the kittens. they had snuck out early in the morning before she woke, to slip into the clearing and play for a little bit with the other kits of the nursery. the clan was already awake, preparing to send out the dawn patrol, and smiling softly at the kits antics. it was when lilyfur awoke that things went bad. she discovered that her kits were not in their nest, and had screeched - not in fear, but in fury. in that moment, laurelkit knew they were done for.
when lilyfur can rampaging out of the nursery like a bat out of hell, she had demanded who's idea it was to leave the nursery before lilyfur woke up, and without her permission no less. to this day, laurelstar still remembers how heavily she was breathing from fury. tenitavely, laurelkit had started to fess up to the crime, but molekit had cut in, saying it was entirely his fault that they were out of the nest early, and that they wanted to be able to play like the other kits - even if for a little bit. lilyfur was furious, and had screamed at him in the middle of the camp. no one had dared intervene. then again, they didn't anticipate what would come next.
lilyfur had glared at the tiny kit, raising a paw and molekit had shrunk down in fear. lilyfur's claws flashed out from her paw, and had came down in a flurry, connecting with molekit's neck and head, and sending him flying across the clearing. warriors suddenly jumped into action. the medicine cat was called, and warriors pinned down lilyfur, who was screaming obscenities at the barely breathing kit - who had been cut deep, and flown clear across the clearing.
after transporting molekit to the medicine cat den, and patching his wounds, the medicine cat announced there was nothing more he could do for molekit, and that he would be gone before the day was over. after hearing the medicine cat's prognosis, the leader decided to exile lilyfur. he did not want a kit killer in his clan, and so lilyfur went, snarling and trying to clip some ears as she went.
laurelkit, now orphaned as bearstep refused to be in her life previously, curled up around molekit and cried. she was there when he took his last breath, and when starclan came to collect him. she slept on his cold body on his vigil until the elders took him away to be buried, and after that she went eerily quiet and obedient. she ate when told, drank when water was offered, slept as soon as the sun began to go down, and woke up as the sun was rising. it took laurelkit a moon after that to digest and accept what had happened with her brother before she became an active kit again.
a moon after that, laurelkit was granted the name laurelpaw, and given a kindhearted tom named yewnose as a mentor. he was considerate with her and took his time teaching her, and making her believe that it is ok if she speaks up, and speaks her mind. looking back, laurelstar realizes she can probably blame her blunt nature on yewnose. the two fit together like puzzle pieces, and they both blossomed together. most days, yewnose wasn't sure who the mentor was and who the apprentice was.
life was dull, but she faced every task thrown at her head on and with a smile on her face. she wouldn't let her mothers abuse hold her back from her tasks as an apprentice, or from being the best warrior she could be. she has, however, made it a moonly ritual to lay beside molekit's grave and recount her past moon. it was her way of coping, her way with coming to terms with what happened with her mother and molekit, and the fact that her father had abandoned her.
laurelpaw excelled best in her fighting, she was agile and could land swift blows and jump out of the way before her attacker knew what hit them. some of the younger apprentices called her a snake teasingly because of her deadly and quick strikes, but laurelpaw rolled her eyes at them and shrugged the words off. she was simply taking advantage of what her body made her more gifted in, and used it to her purpose.
a few, short moons later, laurelpaw was gifted the name laurelfoot in honor of her swift nature and laurelfoot couldn't of be more happy in her life. yewnose was beaming with pride where he sat, and she even saw the ghost of a smile on her fathers face when she glanced at him, even if he never came to congratulate her personally. laurelfoot was fine with that however. she'd grown up without bearstep in her life, and she'd survive more lingering silence from him.
confident in her new abilities, laurelfoot worked herself to the bone. things were not good in shadowclan, the current leader was ruthless and savage, though he wasn't training kits early and purposefully killing cats ruthless, any loner or rogue that wandered over the border had orders to be killed, and clan trespassers were to be wounded before being sent home. laurelfoot couldn't stand his rule, so she set herself to be the perfect deputy for acornstar.
she sucked up to the tom, bid his every wishing to as far as she could stand it, she refused to kill another cat, and she refused to rough someone up too badly. it was a long and grueling road, but she eventually became acornstar's deputy at thirty-seven moons after the previous deputy died by wound infection. laurelfoot was acornstar's deputy for a little over an entire season cycle, before acornstar lost his last life and laurelfoot was able to rise to the throne and claim her name and nine lives at forty-nine moons.
laurelstar slowly patched up every wrong that acornstar did, and tried to make the clan more at peace with each other, but just as she was making progress, the forest tipped upside down. leaders were in risk of being overthrown, cats were fighting for local power, and it was anybody's game. laurelstar lives her days now serving her clan the best she can, and firmly keeping her spot on the throne.
